ANSWERS TO MOST COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT COLLAGEN/FASCIAN
1. WHAT IS COLLAGEN/FASCIAN?
ANSWER: Collagen and Fascian are filler agents used to correct small facial wrinkles. The material is placed into the skin and “fills in” the wrinkle in order to make it less noticeable. Common areas treated with Collagen or
Fascian include small wrinkles around the mouth, the eyes and the forehead.
2. WILL IT HURT?
ANSWER: The small needle used to administer the collagen pinches a little. Some patients complain that the collagen stings as it is being injected. Many times a topical anesthetic is applied around 30 minutes prior to treatment to minimized the discomfort.
3. HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT LAST?
ANSWER: The effect of most treatments will last between 3-4 months. After that time period the body will have absorbed the collagen so that it is no longer cosmetically effective.
4. IS COLLAGEN SAFE?
ANSWER: Yes. Collagen is derived from isolated herds of cattle and has been extensively tested to ensure it is safe for medical purposes. A small percentage of people may be allergic to collagen so a pretreatment allergy test is performed on all patients four weeks prior to treatment.
5. IS FASCIAN SAFE?
ANSWER: Yes. Fascian is derived from human cadaver skin. Donor subjects are extensively tested prior to selection and the human collagen is purified and sterilized prior to packaging. Because Fascian is made from human tissue, no allergy testing is required prior to treatment. For those patients that are allergic to collagen, Fascian is a good alternative treatment.
7. IS THE TREATMENT VERY EXPENSIVE, AND WILL MY INSURANCE PAY FOR THE TREATMENT?
ANSWER: The cost of treatment varies per person, and depends on the amount of collagen/Fascian used, and the time it takes for the treatment. This treatment is considered a cosmetic treatment, and is generally not accepted by insurance companies, therefore, payment by the patient is expected at the time of service.
